Otra recopilación del sello Jass Records indispensable para conocer algunas de las principales bandas de los 20s-30s. Esta me encanta, porque aquí se encuentran muchas de mis favoritas.
Centrada en la época y la temática de la Gran Depresión; algo que desgraciadamente a día de hoy nos suena mucho, ¿verdad? Canciones alegres para intentar menguar los males de la crisis, como las de Leo Reisman, Phil Spitalny, Fred Waring's Pennsylvanians o Eddie Cantor junto a otras sarcásticas, tristes, incluso estremecedoras, reflejo de la situación (estamos hablando de crítica social), como las de Paul Whiteman, Dick Robertson, High Hatters (ten cents a dance, te vendo un baile por diez centavos), Florence Desmond (la cigarrera callejera), Nelson Eddy o Charlie Palloy, con el monumental tema que da título al disco (un dime es también diez centavos) y que también fue interpretado por Al Jolson, Rudy Vallée, Bing Crosby, Dean Martin o, en tiempos más cercanos, Tom Waits.
